Executive function or functions is a series of tasks that help people effectively manage all the life tasks that need to be accomplished and allow us to plan, organize, and execute these tasks. The Importance of Early Intervention

What is Early Intervention and why is it so important? Nationally, Early Intervention (EI) is a system of services that helps children birth to age three who are at risk for developmental delay. Rebecca Jurow, Gaynor’s director of early childhood, discusses what specialists look for when identifying these delays and the importance of doing so earlier rather than later.

Differentiated Learning: Students Take on The Odyssey

Differentiated learning is a key aspect in education at Gaynor especially in subjects like reading. This spring, Middle School students read Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and Homer’s The Odyssey, differentiated to fit specific needs. The goal was to take higher levels of text and differentiate them in order to make them accessible to every student, allowing the students to be able to read and understand the literature regardless of their decoding skills.

Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

After another successful and productive academic year at Gaynor came to a close on Thursday, June 15, it was time to bid farewell to the graduating class and send them off with best wishes. On Friday, June 16, faculty, staff, graduates, and their friends and family gathered in the Gaynor Gymnasium for graduation and the class of 30 were recognized for their achievements and hard work in speeches from Board President Henrietta Jones-Pellegrini, Trustee and Gaynor parent Scott Mager, Head of School Dr. Scott Gaynor, and Gaynor alumnus Nick Kenner ’90.

EC Students Explore Social Justice Through Multi-Sensory Lessons

Multi-sensory learning is a crucial component of Gaynor’s Early Childhood program and can even be applied to teaching complex subjects including social justice, racism, segregation and the life and significance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Students in the EC learned about these topics through a series of multi-sensory lessons that broke down the larger topics into more digestible pieces.

Gaynor Alumni Network Honors Legacy Faculty and Staff

The Gaynor Alumni Network hosted an event to honor legacy faculty and staff at Stephen Gaynor School who have served 10, 15, 20, and 50 or more years. Dozens of alumni from a range of class years returned to campus to connect with each their former teachers, and celebrate the honorees.

Oh, The Places You’ll Go! 2017 Reading Challenge Kicks Off

Gaynor’s 2017 Reading Challenge kicked off on Monday, March 6, with the theme, “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” based on the book by Dr. Seuss. In the North Building lobby, there is a map which represents all of the places students’ imaginations can take them with a good book, such as “fiction island” or “mystery mountain.” In honor of the Reading Challenge, several Gaynor faculty and staff shared where their favorite books have taken them.
